but I did spend about 30 mins twisting knobs randomly and making odd noises. I won't lie it was too hot today even for a new toy. I was in the August slot when I bought it - so I was expecting it to arrive next month, but I guess I got lucky. upfront - so the nice DHL man just handed it to me. They go used for more money than you can buy them off Hologram for used and even importing it from the US was easy as you pay all fees etc. The pedals are awesome from both companies, but pricey. So after looking at these for a while and thinking - that's the latest hipster noise making pedal I must buy one! I did. Same thing goes for Industrialectric’s stuff. I think just about everything DBA makes could probably fit the lo-fi criteria. It’s so great at the end of the chain for that, same (but different) with the Mini’s bias knob, and they’re both killer and versatile dirt pedals in their own right. I love the “crackle” function on the Fu€k. The Mini and the Fu€k Overdrive are both great at producing messed up lo-fi sounds. SolidGoldFX recently released the NU-33, which some people seem to like, but the demos I’ve seen thus far haven’t really wowed me. Holy Drinker made the demo that I linked for that one, maybe he’ll chime in.Īll of these pedals are capable of many radically different sounds and really lend themselves to experimentation. AND, there are a LOT of lo-fi sounds lurking in the Zoom MS70CDR, if you’re willing to put the time into creating them. I’ll second the Mid-fi Deluxe Pitch Pirate, as well. My favorites are the LoFi Junky and the Warped Vinyl.Ĭhampion Leccy’s The Woozy is pretty dope, imo. If you are seeking the old school squashed tape sound, the 3 pedals in this category are awesome. LoFi is applied to a variety of different effects, but they do different things and sound VERY different. Oto Biscuit (sort of the Rolls Royce of bit crushing).Mid-Fi Random Vibrato - a great, wobbly always on pedalīitcrush (Nintendo) = sample rate reducer.Mid-Fi Pitch Pirate (deluxe also has delay).Modulation (warbled tape / PortaStudio with a lot less hiss) = I am missing a few from the last 1.5 years. I also like the Generation Loss and some of the Caroline pedals, but those have a more high fidelity sheen. It genuinely sounds like tape to me and stacks up nicely on multiple tracks. I believe this is the one that launched the lofi thing, and it is still the best to my ears. My favorite is the ZVex Instant Lofi Junky Vexter. But I don't have a pedal that catapults me into new worlds. The results obtained are good for obtaining airy/wet music. ![]() Grown up with blues and rock n roll, I recently approached Lo-Fi music: I use it as a background when I work in the office to relax while taking a bath sometimes even before bed. My second question: is the Hologram better than the Infinite Jets? In addition, the Microcosm has TRS Stereo In and Stereo Out, as well as MIDI capability". ![]() ![]() It's a bit more complicated than that, as these devices can be used for many applications. ![]() Infinite Jets circulates very small samples of the input signal and voices them to create sustaining pads underneath your playing, while Microcosm is more focused around rephrasing your playing (taking many samples, creating microloops, sequencing recorded audio etc.) and recording complex arrangements. They share some similarities (hold sampler, glitch & drone effects) but have their own sonic character and features. I also asked Hologram for an explanation directly and he replied as follows: "Infinite Jets and Microcosm were created with different goals in mind. Here on TGP I have heard a lot of users that abandoned the Infinite Jets for the Microcosm, saying that this one "does everything what the infinite jets does, but does it better". Howeber, recently the eye have fallen on two products by Hologram Electronics: the Infinite Jets and the Microcosm. I've heard good things about the Caroline Somersault Lo-fi Modulator EarthQuaker Devices Rainbow Machine ChaseBliss & CooperFX Generation Loss. Keeping in mind I would like to avoid buying a pedal that has delay-reverb-phaser among its functions, since I already have them, my first question: what's the best pedal you can think of to make Lo-Fi music? But I don't have a pedal that catapults me into new worlds with unpredictable sounds. I have tried to play something similar to the Blade Runner's soundtracks with my actual gear: Meris Mercury7 reverb, Walrus Lillian phaser and Strymon ElCapistan delay. Grown up with blues and rock n roll, I recently approached Lo-Fi music: I use it as a background when I work in the office to relax while taking a shower sometimes even before bed.
